Reunions and Separations~~

Reunions and separations are realities of life! It is not easy to wait for reunions, but it is easy to dismiss again. Either we separate from this person, or from that. However, when we go back to Jesus in Heaven during the End of World, we will meet them all together. And that is for forever and ever......

3 & 4 - Ancient paintings at Painted Cave 1 (Taken on Aug 2011 by me)

I went to Niah National Park, Miri, Sarawak few days ago. Traveling from Miri by car ride is approximately 90 minutes. The entrance fee for adult is RM10 per person and student RM5. We have to walk for about 3.3km to reach the first cave (Traders' Cave), and further 800m to reach Painted Cave. We walked to Painted Cave for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, then used 1 hour and 30 minutes to go back.

There are Traders' Cave, Great Cave, Gan Kira and Painted Cave 1 & 2. Between Great Cave and Gan Kira, there are 2 areas which are very dark, and it is also smelly with birds' shits. If you want to visit, please bring along your torchlight. And don't forget to bring your water bottle too.

In fact, it is quite safe because we just walk on bridge! But please remember to mind your steps. Sometimes it is slippery..:)
To my disappointment, the ancient paintings are faded already (3 & 4). According to 1 & 2, they could be seen clearly 20 years ago (Anyway no entry to Painted Cave 2). However, don't forget the journey to the Painted Cave. We can see bird nest and dungs collectors doing their work, beautiful cave walls after shone with sunlight, feel windy in certain areas, natural water dripping sounds, and ah..........................good exercise!

Before I end, I hope that everyone will be doing their part in preserving this legacy from the past, so that we can thus pass this to our next generations.

God bless..:)

Hard Disk damaged, not Mainboard. Really Thank God!

Just found out that my laptop's mainboard is not the cause for the failure to load Windows, but that is the problem of my hard disk. At least I don't have to spend money to buy a new laptop. If mainboard is damaged, it is more worthy to buy a new computer, rather than replace with a new mainboard. Hard disk is way cheaper than mainboard. Really thank God for this!

~ Encouragement for University Newcomers - Sequel ~~

Dear Juniors,

It is me again! How are you all recently? Okay with your university suffs? If you have any problems or queries, please don't hesitate to ask me or other seniors..:)

Perhaps you should have known about this, when you are out there in the university, your family cannot monitor and control you directly. Meaning that you have FREEDOM!!! This is a good news!!! However, you must make use of your freedom wisely. You would be saying in heart "Yeah no more Mom's nagging me to study, to sleep, YES!!! YES!!! ". However, if you don't use it properly.....................................................................................................................DOOMED.

Why? Doushite? Because if you misuse your freedom to play without proper consideration and thus mess up your time management for assignment and exam........DOOMED. Imagine you still have 3 or 4 assignments in progress, but the deadline is near. Oh my goodness!!! That is bad.

Well it is okay to relax but you have to make sure things going on smoothly. Rest and relax are necessary for striving far ahead in our lives. There is time for work (in student is study), and there is time for rest.

How about another extreme, bookworms? I would not recommend you too. If you bury yourself among books and papers, you will lose opportunity to see new things outside and personally discover what we cannot learn in books. If you have money and time, try to plan for trips or activities with friends. I don't think we will have time for trips when we start to work.

Okay, that's all from me for this time. See you again. :)

Enjoy learning and experiencing!

With care and God bless,
Bartholomew

Doushite?

Encouragement for University Newcomers

Dear Juniors,

Before I start to speak further, I would like to congratulate you that you are going to enter to another stage of your life! I believe when you all know that you have been offered university letter, some might be feeling very exciting, some might be nervous, some feeling very perplexed about what to do, and many more.

So juniors, try to think from good perspective, now it is a good chance to see and experience new things in life. Many are leaving far away from home to learn to live independently. There is a Chinese phrase saying "Rely on parents at home, rely on friends outside home". You have to socialise with others and learn together. You will not run away from doing assignments and presentations in group, of which we seldom did during primary and secondary schools.

So have you listed down what you need during your stay in hostel? Cloth brush? Hangers? Blanket? Pillow and covers? Mug? Bowl? Pad lock? Others? Try to think whatever you need for sleep, bath, washing clothes etc.

And have you ready all the stuffs for applications for PTPTN or JPA? Quickly have some documents (such as your I.C., parents' I.Cs, result certs) photocopied and certified while you are still at your hometown. Better clear more of items in items-to-be-done list. Less rushing later.

Anyway, for those who are Christians, I would want to encourage you people with verses from Bible.

If you don't know why you are in the university that you are in, rest at ease! God has His purpose and plans for you over there.
(Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future) - New International Version

If you think you are not able to do it, or not confident because you always depend on parents, or things are new to you, be at ease! God will provide what you need for whatever situation you are in.
(Deuteronomy 33:25b - ..,and your strength will equal your days) - New International Version
(1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it) - New International Version

If you think you are afraid being alone, be at ease! God is always there for you.
(Joshua 1:9 - Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go) - New International Version

Before I stop writing, I hope that university life will be one of your sweetest memories of your lifetime.

Enjoy learning and experiencing!

With care,
Bartholomew

Lacking of fluency in English - Malaysia

These days, issues about lacking of fluency in English keep surfacing. Many are wondering why many Malaysian students cannot speak fluently although they have been learning this language in schools for 13 years.  Not to say about speaking, some are having problems with writing, when they cannot master grammars well.

Why English so hard ah? (Facebook Link)

I think one of the ways to look into any issues is by referring one's experience. Perhaps I can share mine. From my point of view, I think my writing in English is still okay so far, but not fluent enough. Sometimes I need to stop for a while to construct the sentences mentally. And about speaking, I think if compared to my writing, it is less fluent. Reading is quite okay unless I read articles written by native English speakers, who use words that are seldom used locally.

In fact, my writing was not good until 15 years old. Poor grammar was the main problem. Only when I went for English tuition and got to learn in depth about grammars, from that point my writing starts to improve little by little. Concerning about this experience, in no doubt that grammar is also a must-have foundation in good English writing.

How about speaking then? It is a fact that quite a number of Malaysians cannot converse in English fluently. Many argue that there is no good environment to nurture good English speakers. Hmm, that is quite correct. But don't you think that an environment can be created? From individuals form family, and from familes form community. What if we apply this concept on this issue? One speaks, a group speaks, then ahhh......a English speaking environment and community.

I do agree that some can speak English well but without confident to speak, fearing for making mistakes. When we seldom sharpen our knife, it gradually will be rusted and become unusable.

Do you realise that the language we use when we first meet a new friend, that language will be the one spoken between the person and we in the future? If we used to talk in Chinese with a friend, it would be quite weird if we request to change to English. I feel that too.

All in all, I think grammar ought to be improved for good speaking besides having the self-confidence. If we talk without proper grammars, it would be very confusing to the listeners.

Super Awesome! Mount Kinabalu!

Last week, I went for vacation to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with my friends. Kundasang is a must-go-place for visit. It is situated at half-way of Mount Kinabalu. The surrounding with pine trees make me feel like I was in European countries! At night, when the cold wind blows, prepare to shiver in coldness! It would be nice to have steamboat together with friends to warm up our body. We did eat that..:D

The next morning, we did not forget to wake up early to view Mount Kinabalu. In the morning, the mountain is at its best look. However, when the sun starts to rise, clouds will begin to cover up the tip of the mountain.

The view of Mount Kinabalu at 7a.m.

As I was gazing upon the Mount, I feel that I become so so small. As I was looking to the Mount, I admire about her beauty and height but with awe and fear. I couldn't stop looking at her, along with continuous photo shooting.

I absolutely agree with a verse printed in the Certificate of Visit (which can be bought at your discretion at RM5) "This heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations". I hope that this heritage will be preserved well for the sake of our future generations.

And now I begin to respect more the One who mould the Mount with His own Hands. We cannot make this huge huge piece of huge huge rock, and we are nothing in front of her, but He made her, and she is His asset.
