3 & 4 - Ancient paintings at Painted Cave 1 (Taken on Aug 2011 by me)
I went to Niah National Park, Miri, Sarawak few days ago. Traveling from Miri by car ride is approximately 90 minutes. The entrance fee for adult is RM10 per person and student RM5. We have to walk for about 3.3km to reach the first cave (Traders' Cave), and further 800m to reach Painted Cave. We walked to Painted Cave for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, then used 1 hour and 30 minutes to go back.
There are Traders' Cave, Great Cave, Gan Kira and Painted Cave 1 & 2. Between Great Cave and Gan Kira, there are 2 areas which are very dark, and it is also smelly with birds' shits. If you want to visit, please bring along your torchlight. And don't forget to bring your water bottle too.
In fact, it is quite safe because we just walk on bridge! But please remember to mind your steps. Sometimes it is slippery..:)
To my disappointment, the ancient paintings are faded already (3 & 4). According to 1 & 2, they could be seen clearly 20 years ago (Anyway no entry to Painted Cave 2). However, don't forget the journey to the Painted Cave. We can see bird nest and dungs collectors doing their work, beautiful cave walls after shone with sunlight, feel windy in certain areas, natural water dripping sounds, and ah..........................good exercise!
Before I end, I hope that everyone will be doing their part in preserving this legacy from the past, so that we can thus pass this to our next generations.
God bless..:)
